Ok, Im going to start this in the hopes that everyone will add their ideas. My hope is that we will reach 100 and some of the ideas will help a lot of people, who never thought of it.

1. Something I have been doing. Clean people's houses. Put a flyer in the rich neighborhood, I will clean your house for a maximum of 3 hours for 60bucks. Make sure you say you will use their cleaning supplies.

2. Pawn shop, that is if you have anything to pawn. (OMG, not the computer, please!)

3. Scrap metal, take it to the scrap yard! they'll pay you (alluminum recycling too)

4. If you have a vehicle, offer rides for 2bucks. (good way to get gas money)

5. Your kids can offer to take out the neighbors trash for a dollar, good candy money.

6. babysitting of course, put an add in the laundry matts

7. Do you have a skill? Offer to teach someone for a price!

Ok, if i think of more, I'll add them, please everyone add yours, and number them till we get to 100! God bless!

You can be a greeter at Walmart. If you are a senior or disabled they will let you sit down for it. I don't know how much it pays but better than nothing if your Walmart needs a store greeter for the shoppers coming in to buy.

That particular site did not apply to my circumstances. However, I found it to be so valuable that I did share it with Facebook readers to whom I am connected.

I moved over an hour away from my primary doctor and have no gasoline to visit him. He is only refilling prescriptions until I get set up with a new doctor in my new location. I'm waiting another month to get money; I applied and was approved for disability. I'm just staying in the house until the end of September for it to start sending me checks. I've borrowed $ from family for my blood pressure pills. I will have to repay everyone back. That's why I've been looking for short money.

The people on this site are so nice. God must have directed me to it. I have no idea how I stumbled upon it. I have serious memory issues, but now that it's linked to my email, I can come back to it whenever I want.

Have a good day...it's a glorious 77 degree day here in Massachusetts.

I appreciate your thoughtfulness by creating this post. I'm penniless and it's a good help. One guy posted to sell old albums and I do have many of them. So, there might be an avenue for a bit of cash for me to buy my very needed prescriptions. I have insurance, but no $ for the co-payments.

Thank you and have a good day.

crime 101's post has been removed, it just goes to show that people are bitter and at their wit's end. We have to turn to the Lord! not to the other guy. It is the only way, HE IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRUE HAPPINESS! OUR LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST! I found this online this morning, It helped me put things in perspective.

"Beware in your prayers, above everything else, of limiting God, not only by unbelief, but by fancying that you know what He can do. Expect unexpected things, 'above all that we ask or think.' Each time, before you intercede, be quiet first, and worship God in His glory. Think of what He can do, and how He delights to hear the prayers of His redeemed people. Think of your place and privilege in Christ, and expect great things!"

You could make a small café in your back garden. Get a few chairs and make some cake, cookie, coffee, tea and some cool drinks. Make a few leaflets and post the round or hand them out. You could even charge them to come in to you back garden. I'm sure this could get a bit of money.

I saw this post listed at the top of your page, and I had to come and see, and I'm glad I did.  Even though we live in a neighborhood where it probably won't work to put the ads up in the laundromat (all poor peole) you have reminded me that that's how we used to do things when I was growing up.  We are members of a church with quite a bit of "old" money in it, so maybe my healthy son can get some work in this manner from someone there.

Thanks for bringing me way back to when I was young, and there weren't computers in everyone's home!  I love it!

I use lulu.com to sell some of my ebooks. I also have hardcover on there, but i don't recommend selling hardcover on lulu, since it can cost you a bundle in the long run.

Wordclay is another good place to place your books. They of course will come out as hard cover, which is fine for WordClay, and it does not cost you.

I have another one or two that i can post on here, but i have to look to see what the names of those are. One of those are: http://shirleysebooks.webs.com/

I found a new one the other day, and a very nice one also. You may want to check out Webstore, Wigix, and also Ebay. I recently sold 10 this past week on ebay.

No one has to edit or approve your ebooks. They are your product, and your creativity.

As far as pricing goes, you set your own price, and what you want to make out of them. Personally, i think if you set them at a lower price, you make more cash in the long run. So i do sell mine for a lower price.

There are places that you can sell your ebooks besides auction, like lulu.com, and as tempting as it is to also sell in hardcover on lulu, it is not adviseable, since you pay for it in the long haul.

Before I start, let me say I know some people will boo me.  Definately.  But, this is something I considered at one time.

Each person obviously has their own moral code, and would have to do some serious soul searching before doing this.  I'm curious to see what Starshine has to say.  If she didn't like pet breeding...

Becoming a surrogate mom.  There is a woman I know who did it...to the tune of $25000.  That was a few years ago, and she did it 2 or 3 times.  The people she served were from France.  She told me that depending on what state you live in, laws concerning this are different.  (Illinois has pretty lax laws on this, so women from there are in demand).  The second time she did it, she ended up carrying twins, so it was going to pay more.  They paid for all her prego expenses, and she worked the whole time, so it was like double income.  They chose her because she was already a mom and showed she could carry out healthy pregnancies.  Some places may pay more for these services.  She felt really good about helping these people who were so desperate to have a baby of their own but needed someone to carry it for them.

I couldn't do it, but wouldn't fault someone who could.  I understand wanting a child of "your own" but if I were in that position, I would adopt!  There are unwanted babies just lying around everywhere!

The idea is to give ideas of ways to make money, so here ya go.  It's an idea.

Did anyone mention car detailing yet?  Oh, what I wouldn't give for someone to give the inside of my momtaxi some serious TLC right now!  As a baby shower gift when my 4th sweetie was born, someone bought me a car detail.  It was one of the best gifts I ever got!  My sister just had a baby and had hers done before she went to the hospital.  Even if it isn't your first, nobody wants to bring home a precious, new little person home for the first time in a nasty vehicle.  Marketing your services as a car detailer to pregnant women may have some untapped potential!  That gives me another idea....if you have the time, and especially if you have been through it before, to hire yourself out as a pregnant woman's helper, to get things ready for the new baby...kind of like a wedding planner, only the event is birth instead of wedding.  To do it right, having a baby takes alot of planning and can be overwhelming for someone who doesn't have the help she needs, especially at the end.

Ebooks or pdf (portable document format) is pretty simple to make. You choose a subject that you like writing about. It's your work, so you can resell it as many times as you like.

Making an ebook, is not like making a hardcover. People want the information, and they want something that they can read while they are at the park, the doctors office, or simply waiting in line, or what have you.

They like all sorts of stuff, like cookbooks, niche items, sales, hobbies, you name it, and people are buying them. I do a lot of sales on ebay, and i also have other auctions that i have products...and ebooks are a product, but a virtual product.

breed dogs or cats

Friends of mine got me a Standard Poodle pup to keep as a pet and breed with their Lab/Poodle.  The goal was to sell the puppies and split the $, only I wimped out after only two weeks and begged them to take her back.

They have now made thousands and thousands of dollars by simply letting dogs be dogs and selling the babies.  They actually stay home and do the dog thing full time now.

I see popular breed dogs being put down constantly, because they are unwanted.

I also know a lady who does the same thing with a certain, special breed of cats.

tutor a fellow student or a child

This is the best idea yet, in my opinion, and I didn't come up with it.

EVERYONE has good ideas they never follow through on.  How many times have you seen something advertised and kicked yourself, cuz you already thought of that and never did anything with it????

EVERYONE should be able to invent at least ONE thing to pattent, and sell their invention to a company that wants to produce and sell it.

Look at the stupid commercials, magazine adds, online stores, etc...who in the world would pay $ for some of this junk????  But they DO!  If not, they would not be advertising it!

For goodness sake, if the inventor of the Snuggie can be filthy rich, how is that even right?  Put your robe on backwards, or pin a blanket on, and you just made your own. Geesh

I KNOW all of us are way smarter than that mess!

Obviously it can even be something silly or pointless, as long as theres a market for it, there is money to be made there.....and it seems some people will waste money on anything!

Personally, I am experimenting all the time with new "inventions" (looks more like a torture device making workshop, or at least a health code violation) to see what I can come up with.

I know a couple of guys who invented things that got them govenment grants and private investor backing to start their own businesses!

Put on your thinking caps!

....more ideas about selling your stuff...

Clothing Consignment shops buy used clothes in good condition, to sell in their stores.  You may only get a few dollars per item, but it adds up if you have a large quantity.

Name brand second hand clothing stores are becoming more popular, too, because teenagers will shop there, unlike thrift stores.  They charge quite a bit more for their clothes, so they pay more for them too.  If you are like me, and your kids are clothed in thrift store and yardsale finds, (which, oddly enough, happen to be the same brands that wackos go into debt buying at the mall) you only spent a few bucks, or less, on each item.  We could actually score at these stores, big time, since they are likely to give us more than we paid to begin with!

.....more on selling your stuff.....look around at your things and try to think outside the box...maybe even ask a friend to help you...there may be hidden value in things right under your nose. I bought a pair of framed watercolor prints at a yardsale for either $1 or $2, because I wanted the frames. I liked the pictures too, but not as much as the frames...thought maybe I would put them in different ones or pitch them. After having them for who knows how long, I hung them as they were. I grew to really enjoy the prints, but not the matts. Eventually I took them down and as I took them out of the frames, I found writing on the back, where a frame shop had written the customer's name and the cost of the custom order. I found out these prints were done by an artist who was on the rise in popularity and that they were worth money, especially framed. I had no idea.

I alsofound out some of my old dishes, which were hand me downs and nothing special in my mind, were now considered antique collectibles, worth mulah!

Girl,

You are so on target. Are you sure you are not 100 years old? Just kidding. LOL

You have wisdom that far exceeds so many people. And wow, you have 5 children and still going to school. Now that gumption & determination. You are right, it will be worth it. It does not matter how long it takes us to arrive to our destination just as long as we 'arrive'.

I know what you mean about some having the pampered child mentality. Parents who give their children everything are not doing their child a favor. What happens when something happens to the parents.  None of us like to struggle. I know I didn't. Its a hard lesson of life. However, it does make one independent & appreciative of things in life.

Oh the power of suggestion. You mentioned peanut butter sandwich & now I want one!

I wish you the best in all your endeavors. I'm sure you will go far in life.

take care

I would like to add ideas:

(8) Offer to do one's laundry (if you have a washer & dryer). And, be sure to charge extra if they want any ironing done.

(9) If have kids of age, have them to offer to wash neighbors cars for a reasonable price.

(10) Offer to rake neighbors yard, sweep porch for a reasonable price.

footnote: I like your idea about offering rides. However, where I live 2 dollars will not buy a half gallon of gas for me.  So,one may want to charge more or maybe by mileage. And,if they have to assist with transporting of groceries then that could be another charge. Just a thought.

Keep up the good work!

I know what you mean.  Life almost never goes according to plan, at least for most of us.  I had a teacher who drove me nuts in elementary school, because she said about a million times, "Lifes not fair!"  It stuck in my head and was a goooooood lesson.  Do what you can and roll with it...When you find yourself in a situation you never thought you would be in, you have to do things you never thought you would do!

I realize some of these people are probably users, but I also think some of them are probably just desperate and don't know what else to do.  But, like you said, if their attitude is--they are unwilling to help themselves, yet expect others to help them--shame on them!  They have no self respect or dignity.  Something else I noticed, along the lines of what you said, ekikaseven, is the sad phenomenon of the formerly pampered child.  I had several friends, growing up, who were spoiled (with material things), their parents worked hard to give them everything they hadn't had...and forgot to teach them how to be self sustaining.  They didn't know what the heck to do and how to handle not having things handed to them once they were out on their own.  To this day, they are being supported by others, and/or are broke.  I have been so very blessed to have been given help by others, in hard financial times, but it is very humbling and though I am ever so grateful, I HATE IT!!!!!                                    Unfortunately, it is very hard to go to school and/or work, and earn enough to make it worth the gas! I understand why it seems impossible for many of these women to take that leap. The thing I have come to believe is this...if I can just stick it out long enough, time will go on and I will get there, even if it stinks in the meantime.  Some things are worth it, and can never be taken away.  Single moms  can get grants to pay for school, government assistance, scholarships and student loans to live on, and work part time to get by till they earn their degree.  (A college director told me that one could make a nice living off of scholarships if they took the time to constantly keep applying for them, since there is no limit to how many you can receive.)  If I can do it with five children, I think many others can do the same!                                                                            It  may take me twice as long as others, my blood may run brown from the gallons of coffee I live on, and we probably won't be vacationing in Hawaii for a while, but in the end it will be so worth it...especially for the lessons it is teaching my children....how to get their own darn penanut butter sandwich!    Hahahaha....

Wow,

You have shown great wisdom here! I have read posts where many are begging others for money. When these same people are told to sell 'their items' to provide for 'their own needs', they act like someone has committed the cardnial sin. They have given all sorts of excuses as to why they can't depart with their items. Some will say 'why should they have to depart with things they have worked so hard to get in their lives. Yet, they want strangers to depart with things that these strangers have worked so hard to achieve in life, like 'their MONEY' !!! Go figure.

If people don't plan to 'sacrifice their things' to pay for their own bills, then why do one think a stranger will or should 'sacrifice' for them.

I have talked with people from all walks of life. I have learned a few things from them.  I have learned some grim truths. Now,there are many giving people out there but these are just a few of things that I have heard from people.

(1) The woman that has gone to school, delayed having a family, put her kids in daycare & work long hours to achieve something in life,' DOES NOT plan to give her 'hard earned monies' to another woman to be able to stay at home with their kids.

(2) Many men have expressed that they do not want to take care of somebody else's kids.

(3) I have heard these words said so many times "I went to school & they could have gone to school too". Or, "I worked hard & others should too".

No matter how these statements may sound to others, this is just the reality of how many people feel.

Sell something valuable you think you cannot live without (but can).  When my grandparents died, they left each grandchild a gold coin.  Back then, they were only worth about $300 each.  I had my parents hold on to it for safekeeping and forgot all about it...until my sister was forced to sell hers and found out it was now worth $900!  Something I didn't even know I had anymore saved me from having my power cut off.  Though we both hated to give up our treasured keepsakes, we agreed that our grandparents would have wanted to help us.

When purging my belongings, I ask myself 3 questions:  1. Do you need it?  (really need it.  If it has not been used in a year or more, probably not)  2.  Do you love it? (Is it something you can never replace, that you would be heartbroken over if it was gone?)  3. Is it serving a purpose? (if you have space to keep it, is it being put to good use, even if it is purely for looks?)

------all null and void, however, when money is desperately needed!

I'm not saying throw it away for nothing, like the dude who wants to pay you $5 for your dad's antique toy car, when you know its worth way way more.  I'm only saying that if it comes down to choosing between your well being and inanimate object, (just for the sake of having it, because it used to belong to Great Great Aunt Stella or because it was a gift from your mother) the choice is clear.  If you find it hard to part with something, take a picture of it before you do, to preserve the memory the thing held.

after all, its all just stuff anyway!  You can't take it with you when you go!

My wife donates twice per week.  The program here pays $25/donation plus bonuses every six weeks.  It isn't a lot of money, but in these hard times those donations have at least a couple of times, helped to make our mortgage payment.

in response to ICEVERYTHING...   Yes, sir, you are correct.  It depends on what area you live in.  Some places pay a little more (maybe up to $10 more).  And, yes I think you can donate once a week, but no more.  I didn't even want to suggest this one...I have never done it, but back in my first college career, all my friends did.  It was scary to me.  I think things are much safer now.

Very good idea.  I know someone who needs baby sitting.

The only issue is that it's very, very hard for folks to trust people to come into their home (especially enough to trust them around all of their personal belongings, etc.).

i did this once. We were going to the fire works displays, and i wanted to take bottle water for the kids. Well when you only got 3 bucks. Its hard to bring yourself to buy bottled water. I went to the local Dollar General store, and they had a 24 pack of bottled water for $3. So I bought it. I told the kids, that they could have 2 each, but we had to sell the rest for a $1. we only sold 5 but that was a $2 dollar profit and we got free bottled water, I felt smart that day. LOL

Well Im losing count now, one day I'll add them up.

But here's one

Bake cookies or snacks or tamales and sell them arround your neighborhood. If you're persistant you could make quite a bit. Also you can sell soda pop. there is a lady in my apartments that buys twelve packs  and pickles on sell and sell's them by putting an add in the laundry. 50cent sodas and $1 pickles. You can make quite a profit, pay $2.50 (on sale) for a 12pk of Dp. 50 cents each is what $6bucks, not much, but worth it.
